Bucksmtb 2008
Season Review
2008 has been a mixed year for
bucksmtb. The start of 2008 I have to admit was quite quiet, local
events had dried up especially with Aston Hill not running races this
year, and in general news was a little thin on the ground. What didn't
help was that all 3 of us here had ended up quite busy with various
things and the website had sadly become a little bit of a back burner,
however we realized this and whipped the site back into shape...
Autumn of this year (2008) saw the introduction of a much needed new
facelift to the website. The old website had run well in its old 'lime
green' form but it had its fair share of problems, and a very mix
match of pages, colours and graphics - hence the new 'crankset scheme'
which I hope is to peoples liking. While were talking websites we
could of course go for a much more complicated fancy site, but simple
works, and to be honest for a website like this that has over 2000
pages its far easy to work with than more complicated flash movie
sites etc.
Riding wise again has been a mixed bag for 2008. Myself, I'm afraid,
didn't find much time for riding over the summer with the start of a
new job and all the relevant training. However now I'm settled in the
new job I do get a lot of time off which makes a change, this I hope
will let me get out more regularly and get out riding properly again.
For Mark and Kris (the other 2 guys behind the site,
and our 2 senior XC Race Team Riders) again it seemed to be more of a
mixed bag than previous years. Strangely from what seemed to be such a
quiet season Mark managed to hit more events than ever before over the
2008 race season. Kris's season didnt go as well as hoped, he didnt
make as many events as he wished, and sadly a few did not finishes but
a blow on a quiet season for him. The races
however the races that Kris and Mark did manage to attend between them saw them
both achieve some fantastic
results, both for the website and for themselves. Look out for
Mark's racing season review coming very soon.
Along with a lot of new content being added to the
site, and a lot of rebuilding of existing content going on throughout
the website over the second half of 2008, the biggest news was the
start of our regular "Group Rides". It has always been traditional to
have a bucksmtb Christmas ride. In the past it has been primarily
downhill riding, but this year we decided to do the Cross Country and
mark the start of regular Group Rides that will be running throughout
2009.
2008 in general hasn't been the busiest year to date
for bucksmtb, however late this year things have picked up in an
extraordinary fashion. Lots of '09 news and information on events for
2009 has started to flood in, along with more hits on the website than
ever before. Our online Race/Event Calendar is brimming full of
allsorts of bike events and race dates. 2009 has got a lot in store
for both Mountain Biking generally and also for our humble website.
For us in our 7th year of being open, group rides and the race team
are going to dominate our bucksmtb calendar, but we also have so much
content in progress for the website over 2009, its going to be
fantastic year indeed.
Happy New Year 2009 to you all
Happy Riding
