What is your favourite trick, your
hardest trick to pull, and the first trick you learnt?
Favourite trick;
toboggan, hardest trick;
table top/toboggans, first trick;
one footers.
Riding is now like full time to you; do you still enjoy it, or is it just
considered a job to you now?
I don't see riding as a full time job, I wake up every
morning still wanting to ride, even if I didn't have any sponsors I would still
ride with my mates on a weekend.
You must have raced a lot then? What's your
favourite course to race, and how would you improve courses generally?
I've raced now for 12 yrs now, I've
seen a lot of different tracks and how they've changed over the years, i'm
still waiting for someone to figure exactly what a 4X course layout should be.
Being a world classed pro; you can try the new products first eh? Have you
got any good gossip on new parts/bikes?
It's cool getting all the
tricks bits, this yr I've got a lot of custom parts on
my bike that are not available in the shops, they might be at sometime in the
future but I don't know yet, can't tell you any gossip
yet.
How does your position now in the mountain bike industry compare to your
aspirations when you first started riding? Did you ever think you’d end up in
this position?
When I first started riding it
was all about winning races, and my goals haven't
changed. Every race I enter
I wanna win, I never thought in a million yrs id be in the position I'm
in now, I'm very lucky to be where I am now, although
it has been hard work.
Mountain Biking has changed a huge amount in the past ten years from pure XC
to all the different disciplines there are at the moment. Where do you think
it’ll go next?
I've only been in mtb for 4 yrs now so I've
no idea about the past so I cant compare it to anything really,
where will it go next? I don't know it depends on what the marketing people at
the big companies dream up next, I'm so not into the
whole "freeride" thing, I don't even no what it is, I reckon its just a
technical word for riding your bike.
How do you feel with the bike and the Tomac deal?
The Tomac deal is mint, the
guys at Tomac look after me really
well, the team manager really understands things from
a riders point of view rather than a business view, I have all the bikes I need
and all the spare parts to go with em.
How did u start racing, and did you have a background in something else?
I started racing in bmx when I was 13 but only did a couple of races then never
rode again till I was 16, I did ride moto-x when I was younger from age 6 to 8.
Who inspires you?
There's
only one person that inspires me and that's my dad, he was a top moto-x rider
when he was in his early 20's but he gave it all up
when he married my mum and my dad supports me 110%
Did you always think you where going to be a mountain biker or did you want
to be a fire man or a astronaut?
I had no idea what I was gonna do after school, I hardly ever went to school,
that's not a good thing if I could change my school years I would have studied a
lot more.
Have you ridden much around bucks? I know you have
ridden at Aston Hill, are you going to be racing/riding there soon?
I think I'm gonna do the Aston
race in September.
Do you have a sex life, or do you just ride bikes?
I like to ride women too not just bikes
“Either the bike goes, or I do……” What does the missus think of your career
in biking?
She hated it so she had to go, I don't miss her.
1, 11, 21, 1211 what is the next number in the sequence?
666
How was Dave’s wedding, and How did you feel
being a Best Man at a wedding whilst being dressed up like a Penguin?
Dave's wedding was
funny, but not as funny as Dave passing out on
his stag do at 12-30 and having to ring his bird up to come pick us up, the
suits were awful.
Could you ride the new Aston hill 4X in fakie?
no
So then, this luxury mtb lifestyle ... which
sponsors make this happen?
All of them really its not
just one of my sponsors, globe keep me in nice trainers, howies keep me in nice
clothes and I get the best bikes from Tomac, I could
go on and on, from all of my sponsors I get amazing support
Where you a good student? Any good memories from those dull days of forced
education?
I was an awful student the teachers were glad to see the back of me that's for
sure, I have a lot of good memories from School
but I wanna keep this interview clean so I keep them to myself...
During your time in the mtb scene you must have peeved a few people off……
what’s the worst prank you’ve ever done?
Dunno about a prank but one company I rode for owed me
a lot of money and was not willing to pay me out so I sold all his bikes, that
peeved him off, he should have paid me,
then there wouldn't have been a problem...
We’ve been having a look through your webby, very nice it is too. Is the
Sarah Michelle Gellar webby link a favourite of yours [wink wink]…….?
Lol .
What other ‘improvements’ would you like to make to your site?
Sarah
Michelle Gellar rules, have u seen cruel intentions?? I will
say no more. My websites getting better all the time,
I'd like to add some video footage and update the
galleries a bit more often.
Have you ever got so p*ssed off of getting knocked
off your bike in a 4x race that you have beaten someone up, or had words……..?
Yeah i've had words with a
few people but not come to blows as yet...
How do you get over being a p*ssy on riding big
doubles, other large jumps, hucks, and obstacles etc?
I always look at a jump at think if I walk away form
it I will regret not doing it, that's how I deal with
big jumps.
Is there anyone you would rather be right now?
No
Do you enjoy bmx racing as much as mtbing? Which one would you ride if u
where a lazy slob? Or would you be a coach potato? Or are you……….?
I enjoy racing either bike I don't really have preference, I hate doing races
where the tracks are lame.
If you ever had a chance to go on a clubbing holiday where would it be?
I hate night clubs cause I work in one so id rather go
on a riding holiday.
What colour jersey is fastest?
Red
Why is Dale Holmes faster than you?
;-)
Because Dales' on the sauce...
"Many
thanks to Oggy for taking the time out to do the interview"
