About us
Welcome to bucksmtb.co.uk the Home of Buckinghamshire Mountain Biking...
The first
humble offering of Bucksmtb was originally founded in 2002 by three local
riders. Our original ideas and aims were to just showcase our personal mountain
biking photos and local XC trail guides. Over time and with alot of interest
from local riders and local shops we started to develop the site, into what we
wanted to be the ultimate Buckinghamshire MTB club and info website. To do this
day we are still the only website dedicated to Mountain Biking in
Buckinghamshire and surrounding counties (including Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire,
Oxfordshire)
Our XC
influence was soon broken, but not forgotten, when we dispersed into the fast
world of Downhill Mountain Biking, both in racing and photography. Since then,
over the years, we have developed the site with multiple galleries, a large tech
tips database, a very busy forum, various kit and bike reviews, pro rider
interviews, a bike shop listing directory, a great database of website links and
much more, and Scott still amazes us with his regular gallery entries.
We also try to follow and attend as many race events as possible, especially
local events. We try our best to turn up to as many events as possible both to
race and to spread the 'bucksmtb' name. Our Junior development race teams of the
past several seasons have made us very proud, with all riders getting superb
results all over the UK and getting us National recognition. Several of our ex
team riders have moved onto much bigger and better teams in the MTB racing scene
too, and we are extremely proud to have been part of that and to help them
progress with their riding careers.
To this
day we still try to meet our original aim, to showcase and build the ultimate
index for Mountain Biking in Buckinghamshire and surrounding counties, and to
cater for all MTB disciplines (DH, XC, 4X etc). We regularly update the site
with new articles, local race news, new galleries, new local route guides, and
things for you to get involved with - and when were not doing that, were just
improving the content we have currently.
We are
however always on the look out for help with the website. If you would like to
help out and provide website content for this busy site, then please do get in
touch, we are always after news, route guides and photos to update our pages.
Just email content to us and we will get it online.
We are
also always on the look out for volunteer Mountain Bike Trail Leaders. We hold
regular monthly group rides all over the Chilterns and beyond. If you are a
qualified MTB Trail Leader and you are interested in helping us out with rides
then please get in touch. For more information on our group rides and the
locations we use please visit our Group Rides pages.
Group
rides are now a regular appearance on the calender, and there are plenty more
ideas on the agenda for 2010/2011. Keep checking back to site or sign up for our
regular email updates newsletter (via the home page) to be kept up to date with
our regular monthly group ride dates and locations. Not only are we holding
local Chilterns XC rides we are also organising rides elsewhere in
Buckinghamshire and surrounding counties including fantastic locations such as
Woburn, Swinley Forest and Cannock Chase to name just a few.
For 2010 we have a brand new forum online. This new forum is easier to use than
our previous one and is proving very popular. Why not join our forum and
organise some rides with other local riders, as many are already doing. Our
forum also includes various news articles, a tech section, information on our
group rides and so much more. We also have a regular Photo Caption Competition
on our forum too, which is free to enter, and we try to offer a prize every
month as well.
For 2008
we saw the introduction of
bmtb.co.uk
a shortened web domain URL for website use. Along with it taking less time for
you to type, it meant we had more scope for users to be able to find us on
search engines, and the shorter 'bmtb' name gave us more scope for logo design
for race kit etc.
Bucksmtb
runs as a non profit website, and at the moment is not a fully affiliated
British Cycling Mountain Bike Club. This is something that we are looking to
setup in the near future. Bucksmtb operates with volunteer staff and volunteer
MTB Trail Leaders. Website income is dependant on fund raising activities and
donations, and any profit made is used to improve the website and the services
we can offer.
I hope you
will find bucksmtb of good use, and that you will feel the need to use the site
and attend some group rides. Please check back to the site soon for more updated
articles and news...
