Course/Event Review:
Following a week of dry weather the
last round of the Southern XC was held in brilliant sunshine and dry
tracks; a perfect combination to round of what has been a good series
of races.
The course was relatively flat with only a couple of very short sharp
rises to test the legs. Don’t be fooled by the flat nature thou, this
was a hard and fast race course with plenty of twists and turns to
keep you on your toes (as I discovered to my peril on lap 1 where I
totally overcooked it on the second section of single-track, taking a
corner too fast and ending up hitting the dirt.) . Aside from the
mentioned hiccup on lap one I had a good race and once again managed
to complete consistent lap times, I was happy with the consistency but
I still struggle with the pace of these flatter courses, (something I
need to work on) preferring a few more hills. This however did make
for some exciting racing and was an excellent way for the overall
series titles to be decided.
In my first full time racing season I have been highly impressed by
the organization of this series and I look forward to returning next
season to try and improve on this years results.
