Midland TrailQuest Red Kite Challenge (Magellan Midlands Summer Series 2007) Sunday 13th May 2007 Lane End start, Chiltern Hills, Bucks Sunday 13th May 2007 sees the Magellan Midlands Summer Race Series come to the Chilterns for the "Red Kite Challenge" Round. Organised by Nick Calkin, the "Red Kite Challenge" is a 5 hour Ttrailquest mountain bike orienteering event where you the competitor have to navigate from control location to control location, punching a score card at each location. Competitors may ride solo or as a team of two (that must ride together). Control locations vary in the amount of points they are worth and competitors may use any legal route to ride between them. The rider or team of two who scores the highest number of points within the time limit is the winner. Trailquesting is an exciting sport that
is rapidly growing in popularity, it is very
similar to the TrailBreak Navigator Series. At the start a colour map is provided which is marked up with the control points, along with a sheet describing the exact location of the control on the ground once you have navigated to it. Competitors then have to navigate to as many control points as they possibly can and ensure they return to the HQ within the time limit - there are score deductions for being late. To compete in one of our trailquest
events you must first
register online with Midland Trailquest
as it is a condition of their insurance
policy that all riders are members of Midland Trailquests. If you just
turn up on the day you will not be able to ride. Registration is free,
does not need to be renewed and takes only a couple of minutes.
