Aston Hill Black
Run DH Race
Sunday 14th
March 2010
Following a full days practice on the Saturday, Sunday 14th March saw the return
of downhill racing to Aston Hill for 2010. I just hope that the majority of the
riders got away with riding on Mothers day...
The track of choice for the first race of the season was the fast and technical
infamous Black Run.
The Black Run as per last year had seen a few alterations for this weekends
racing. To remove the home advantage from the local riders, the bottom section
of the Black Run had been altered with a whole new line, thus opening up the
competition between local and visiting riders.
160 odd riders turned up on the day to take in the super weather and fantastic
trail conditions.
The car park was a hive of excitement and energy the whole day with a great turn
out of team pit tents, sale tents, A VW Camper serving food, and Monsters huge
Chevrolet Pick up - you couldn't miss it...
Racing categories on the day included hardtail, Juvenille, Youth, Junior,
Master, Veteran, Women, Seniors, and Expert/Elite.
After practice had finished and a couple of snags with the timing equipment had
been resolved the racing started at about 11.15
Competition was fierce for the fastest run of the day, with the top three
fastest riders only being around half a second apart. The fastest rider down the
entire day however was Harry Molloy (No.246, Expert/Elite Category) who for race
run one hit a time of 1:35.52, this was bettered again in race run two when
Harry took another second off the time to get a best run time of the day of
1:34.16
Overall it was fantastic to see the hill continuing to offer sucn events as
this. After the success of the Black Run and 423 Races in 2009 it really looks
like racing has kicked off again in a big way and is proving to be a huge
success. A perfect way to put Aston Back on the map for good. I can't wait to
see what other downhill race offerings will be on the cards for 2010/11.
Well done to all who raced, there was some awesome racing on the day, and a huge
shout of thanks has to go out to everyone involved in helping with and
organizing the event.
Lets hope 2010 sees many more races up on our local Hill...
