Altura Winter Cruiser Trousers

Now coming from a motocross background many years ago I'm afraid I have always been against the lycra image, much preferring to stick to my baggy shorts for riding. However several years or cold winter riding have passed now and my poor knees when aching and blue in colour are starting to say I need some warmth!

I didn't want to spend the earth on some super warm, wind/nuclear proof wet suit type bib short that everyone raves about, so instead I took look at Alturas cruiser trousers.

The cruiser trousers come in Summer and Winter varieties, the thermal stretch fabric winter variety was top of the list for me.

The trouser tights don't look anything too fancy, standard black lycra look pair of tights with draw cord waist, a back pocket, angle/foot loops, some reflective trim and Altura logos to finish off - perfect, I'm not one for pimp my ride style clothing on the bike!

Coming in at a very respective £29.99 I couldn't really argue at the value for some trousers that will tide me over to the spring when I can ride about in my baggy shorts with bare knees once again.

The trousers are comfortable, and the waist sizing seems pretty normal. The draw cord takes off any slack in the material, and one of the nice touches is the foot loops - very uncommon on low cost lycra tights and riding trousers.

The fit is baggier than proper lycra tight bibs etc, which I was much more happy with, as my figure does not suit tight figure hugging lycra!

Comfort on the bike is good. These need to be worn with a boxer short, or padded lycra short underneath as the back pocket, stitching and zip make these uncomfortable without. I would probably recommend a padded liner/boxer short to go with.

The thermal fabric certainly keeps you warm, and to my surprise very warm! Because of riding for years without trousers I had always compensated my cold legs by layering up on top, however this now means I'm at boiling point! If like me its your first time into riding trousers/tights you will find you need to loose a layer or two up top. These trousers with a base layer and one jersey or jacket seems to suffice even in the deep of winter.

The trousers have a water repel coating too which isn't the best ever, but it does keep a good majority of water away when steaming through puddles!

All in all these are very good trousers, they have always had good reviews, and so far they are keeping up with their reputation. I do wonder how well they will survive regular washing, but that's something only time will tell.

However now my legs are warm I'm still going to be wearing my baggy shorts over the top!

General:
Water repellent(ish), versatile thermal tight, suitable for multisport use. Generally good on the bike but you definitely need some padded undies to go with. Good comfort, foot loops a nice touch at this price. Well recommended.
