Route Time: Depends on fitness level

Start: Quainton Village Green

  1. At the top of the village green turn right along the road that passes Quainton village Store. Continue past the Church to the end of the t-junction, turn left up the roadway. Turn off left at the gateway, across the field and climb to the summit and radio mast on Quainton Hill.

  1. At the top of Quainton Hill continue on the main through-track along the top of the hill in the same direction. After 400m, begin to drop right of the hill, looking to ride down a little grassy combe, and as you descend, keep an eye out for a brick outbuilding.

  1. Stay right of this building, and beyond it stay to the left-hand edge of the field, that curves down  left to a gateway that exits on the farm road (at Fulbrook Farm).

  1. Go right on the farm road again at the t-junction with the lane, and continue to the next t-junction. Turn left and after 100m where the lane curves right join the bridleway that continues straight ahead. Continue about 1km in the same direction to the next lane. Go left on the road, and after 450m join the bridleway on the right hand side.

  1. Carry on beside the field to where the bridge goes over the ditch. Follow that and turn right along the edge of the next field, staying in the same direction. Pass under the electricity cables and carry on along the edge of the field, uphill, towards the church tower of East Claydon. In the field below the barn, ride more steeply uphill to join the farm road hidden by the gradient of the hill. Turn left on that and carry on into East Claydon.

  1. At East Claydon go into the village and follow the through-road left for approx 100m then turn right onto the minor road. After about 200m join the bridleway right (between house and industrial units). Carry on across the fields to the electricity lines and the edge of the filed. There turn left and continue to the road.

  1. At the road turn right and continue on the road for about 3km into the village of Winslow. Take the first proper right and carry on along the road for 2½km into the village of Granborough. At the top of the ill beside the Church turn left and continue on the road for approx 2km to the little plantation that is Christmas Gorse.

  1.  Return from Christmas Gorse on the road back via Granborough, this time continuing on to North Marston. On entering the village, take the first proper right on to the minor road, and follow that (ignore the left turn to Manor Farm) back to the point where, on the outward leg the bridleway continued straight ahead.
  1. From here go left along the little lane that was once a Roman Road, and take the first right onto the bridleway, uphill past a farm. Continue on that track to rejoin the outward leg coming back down towards Quainton Village (where outward leg branched left off roadway up Quainton Hill.

End: Visit Pub and reflect on the day!
