Route
Time:
11 miles
-
From Henley travel up the high street and
follow straight on passing the town hall on your right. Follow on up for 1/2
mile taking a left onto 'Pack and Prime Lane'. After 200 yards take the path
leading behind Henley College. Follow on for approx 1 mile always keeping to
the middle path. At the entrance of the woods take the path leading you
straight on. Follow on through until you reach the road.
-
Take a right at the road then a left by the
pond and the telephone pylon. After 1/2 mile as the road turns sharply left
turn right through a gate onto unmade lane. Continue on as it bears round
through another gate always straight on at any path junctions.
-
At the end of the road go right then
immediately left to 'Shepherds Green'. You will pass picturesque Shepherds
Green on your right then the Lamb Inn on your left. At the main road turn
right to Nettlebed (fairly fast traffic). Take the next right signposted
'Oxfordshire Cycle Way'. Follow round to the right ignoring the bridleway to 'Bix'.
At 'Rocky Lane Farm' go straight on. As you pass the buildings and start to
descend take the left hand signposted bridleway. This is quite steep so take
care. At path junction go straight on up (only the brave should try to cycle
this hill). Follow on into the heart of the woods keeping straight on
following the tree arrows. Keep straight on through this glorious wood;
skirting the fields to the right and the left always being guided by the tree
arrows. You go through a gate and eventually reach a lane.
-
At the lane turn left then at the road
junction take the right hand bridleway into 'Lambridge Wood'. Follow the Lane
to Lambridge House, pass the house and take the right hand path downward
(signposted with a blue arrow). This is a lovely path with an enjoyable
downhill and good views. Again follow tree arrows and it will lead you
alongside a fence to the road. At the road turn left onto 'Fairmile'. Turn
right down the path adjacent to the road back to Henley Town Centre.

"This route takes you quickly from Henley Town
Centre into the countryside. The majority of this route is off-road, but quite
manageable for most abilities. A great wood ride which is particular joy in
spring when the bluebells are out"
