We weren't a hundred percent sure how good the turn out would be for our March Group Ride as our ride accidentally happened to clash with a couple of other local cycling events, the first being the Aston Hill Black Run Downhill race, and the other the Chilterns Cycle Challenge. We were pleasantly surprised to hit the trails with a total of twelve of us for what was to prove to be a great day of riding...
Last year two of our Club Members, Steve and Lester, rode up and down Mount Snowdon for Charity – almost a year on since their last trip they fancied another visit to Mount Snowdon, this time to ride some different tracks too. This sounded a great idea so we decided to hold it as a club trip.
The dates were kindly set around my work roster (I travel abroad a lot) which was most considerate of all the interested riders to fit in around my hectic lifestyle. The 18th and 19th March 2011 was set as the tour date. Steve put in a lot of organising into the Club trip, arranging transport (a crew cab van) and organising a very good hostel for us to stay in on the Friday night and even offering to pick everyone up and drive both legs of the journey.
Everyone was picked up and packed up into the tour van by around one o’clock on the Friday so we headed off from Milton Keynes off up the M1 to start our long journey to Wales. The journey to Snowdon was uneventful and we were very lucky with the traffic. Excluding a lunch (and Costa stop…) we did the journey in around four hours which was very good going considering it was Friday afternoon traffic and all.
Our monthly ride took place in Cannock Chase, Staffs on Feb 26th. The drive from Bucks took a couple of hours for most and upon arrival we were greeted by a lovely wet morning, 100% cloud cover and little promise of sun. The car park was full of riders packing their cars up after a morning ride – brown would have been the obvious colour of choice for clothing and bikes if the riders packing up were anything to go by!
^One of the two groups during a brief snack stop. Twelve people in total took part on the day.
We were extremely lucky with the weather for this ride, frozen trails and almost nice weather - the Sun almost made it out for us, but not quite! Fifteen of us braved the chilly January weather for a fifteen or so mile loop of the Chilterns...
